COFO is here to revive Koffo Woven Fabrics

TRIBUNMANADO.CO.ID, MANADO – Cindy Wowor who is a resident of Manado is moved to lift back Koffo cloth that has become extinct. This is because the typical fabric of Sangihe and Talaud is not produced, there are only a few who can weave it.

“At first I was moved to raise the back of koffo cloth, because some time ago to follow the seminar on the extinction of the cloth at the Textile Museum in Jakarta,” said Founder Cofo during a visit to Tribune Manado, Tuesday (7/11/2017).

At the time was displayed a book about the results of research that fabric written by Steven Simolang. Then to know more clearly, he was about the researcher to get a clear explanation. In addition, he also obtained information from the Textile Museum. “I was moved, because coming from North Sulawesi, do not want the results of the culture extinct just like that.I feel concerned,” he said.

In March 2017, it has conducted a deeper survey, especially in Talaud, to gather information, face-to-face and discussions with village groups, whose activities are facilitated by the Talaud Islands district government through the Department of Industry and Trade.

“Based on the results of the seminar and the field survey in the Talaud Islands district I immediately conducted an Audience with the Governor of North Sulawesi over the extinction of Koffo cloth and finally I got a green light to revitalize Koffo fabric back,” said Cindy Wowor.

And finally in April 2017, I founded COFO for the development and preservation of Koffo woven fabric as one of the cultural values ​​of the nation from the extinct province of North Sulawesi, using cotton and other modern materials by maintaining Koffo’s original decorations and new modifications developed as it was in the past.

“In addition, COFO will also conduct training on community weaving in Talaud which is planned in each sub-district there is Koffo weaving group so it can support productivity and quality level,” said Cindy Wowor.

He wants Koffo cloth later to be able to support tourism that is currently on the rise.

Manado Tribune Editor Sigit Sugiharto accompanied by Production Manager Aswin Lumintang and Economic Editor Fernando Lumowa said it supports the intention of Cindy Wowor who will raise the back of the koffo cloth. “This is a noble intention, we will support it fully,” he said.
